Heloisa Helena HH Milioli
Dr Heloisa Zaccaron Milioli (Senior Research Officer – Garvan Institute of Medical Research) drives research focused on human cancer development, progression, metastasis and therapy-resistance. Specifically, her interest lies on breast cancer biology, tumour heterogeneity and cell state plasticity, which refers to the ability of cells to switch state and fate. She integrates molecular biology and computational approaches to investigate non-genetic mechanisms controlling cell state plasticity and therapy resistance. Her research project uses cutting-edge technologies , including RNA-Seq, Ribo-Seq, Polysome Profiling, Mass Spectrometry and bioinformatics to driving research that will lead to new therapeutic strategies and advances that will benefit patients. Her research on the context-dependent role of the androgen receptor (AR) in both primary and resistant breast cancer is published in Nature Medicine, Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, and Nature Comms, has helped shape ongoing clinical trials (NCT02463032, NCT04947189), highlighting her commitment to improving outcomes for cancer patients in Australia and worldwide.
